mission effectuée Due to heavy maritime traffic in this area, which hosts important populations of Cetaceans, frequent collisions happen between ships and large marine mammals, often with serious consequences. The REPCET project aims to reduce the risks of collision by improving transport ships' advance detection of whales through the use of a computerized network. Fleur de Passion will be equipped with the REPCET satellite communication system. Scientific partners: Consortium REPCET (Souffleurs d'Ecume, Chrisar Software Technologies)
The REPCET project, co-suggested by the "Foam Blowers" association and Chrisar Software Technologies, aims to reduce the number of collisions in collaboration with the ferries dans multiple commercial ships in occidental north-Mediterranean. Its first supporters were Dr Pierre BEAUBRUN (EPHE) and Commander Frédéric CAPOULADE, thanks to whom Pascal MAYOL was authorized to embark on SNCM ships in order to observe and spot cetaceans in the concerned zones and to establish precise cetacean routes. Aboard Fleur de Passion, they will observe and follow the itineraries chosen by the cetaceans and send the data via satellite to ships in the same zone as the cetaceans. A luminous signal will indicate their presence on a special screen, and if the cetacean does not change its trajectory, the ships will change theirs to avoid a collision.
