Waddensea - UNESCO World Heritage Site - Waddensea - North Sea - August 09 to September 10, 2010

mission en cours

Fleur the Passion will return to the North Sea heading for the Wadden Sea in particular. This area has recently been declared "World Heritage Site by the UNESCO".
A project on best practises is planned to complete the information gathered earlier in the expedition. We shall report on the mussel fishery, a tradition of this area which shows, however, alarming signs of overexploitation. Here again the main theme will be the benefits accrued by Marine Protected Areas to the sustainable management of ecosystems, in this case mussel beds.
For this project we will have on board a group of scientists from the IMARES (Institute for Marine Resources & Ecosystem Studies).

The Wadden Sea: protected and preserved

Fleur de Passion is navigating in the Wadden Sea. The goal of the expedition is to gather information on best practices of these marine protected areas, which have been classified world heritage by the UNESCO in June 2009. This will complete the information gathered earlier in the expedition and will help us to develop a global strategy for decreasing the impact of human activities on the oceans.
