Marine Protected Areas in the East Atlantic - From Gibraltar to northern France - Atlantic - Mai 15 to June 15, 2010

mission effectuée

Fleur de Passion will next sail all the way to the Baltic Sea. Several weeks of navigation along the Atlantic coast of Europe will allow us to census surface species and macro-waste and analyse plankton. The crew's days and nights will be governed by protocols developed for these different tasks.
The city of Lisbon welcomes Fleur de Passion for the European Maritime Day between May 19th and 21st 2010. Antinea was present with a multimedia show at the inauguration when the event was first launched by the European Union in 2008.
Between Lisbon and Kiel several stops will give the "Changing Oceans" team the opportunity to meet with MPA managers as well as users in order to collect information on effective management strategies and positive impact on protected areas. The findings will be compiled into a comprehensive review of best practices, co-authored with the World Commission of Marine Protected Areas. These accounts of successful practices and positive outcomes are to serve as a reference for all MPA managers in their effort to protect the marine environment.
