Discovery and observation of dolphins - St Florent Bay - Corsica - August 18 to 21, 2009

mission effectuée

Charles Pinelli, president of the association of the Friends of the Agriate (region in Northern Corsica) will help the Changing Oceans expedition to discover the dolphin pods which live around Saint Florent. For many years, Charles has been committed to protect the natural and archeological heritage of this region. It is the world of the large dolphins which Charles will help us to discover if they are there and if the tourists have not scared them away. To track the dolphins and learn more, Charles uses photo identification of the dorsal flippers (for markings bites, scratches, etc... which are like finger prints) which allow him to identifiy each individual dolphin. He is working with scientists to develop bioacoustic studies on dolphins and as Charles explains: "the work has only just begun". Partner: Les Amis de l'Agriate
